What is License Watch?

License Watch is available at no cost through the Drivers Benefits App that helps you stay informed about your NYC TLC License and vehicle-related violations.

With License Watch, you can view important information about your TLC License status, receive alerts about license renewals,learn about vehicle-related violations, and get support when you need help responding to tickets or infractions.

License Watch helps you stay organized, avoid surprises, and keep your driving career on track.

Important: Information provided through License Watch is for your personal use only. License Watch does not share information with third parties including the TLC, rideshare companies, or other Bases. License Watch is a reminder and monitoring service, and does not replace official notices from the TLC, DMV, courts, tolling agencies, or other government agencies.

How to Get Started

Activate real-time monitoring by adding your TLC-authorized, For-Hire Vehicle (FHV) plate number, and receive ongoing updates designed to help keep you on the road.

Download and enroll in the Drivers Benefits App.
Open License Watch in the App.
Select Activate Monitoring.
Enter your TLC plate number to opt in and unlock full monitoring features.

Is License Watch free?
Yes. License Watch is available at no cost to Eligible, Enrolled Drivers, and is accessible through the Drivers Benefits App.
What information can I see in License Watch?
Once you activate License Watch’s monitoring features by adding a TLC-Authorized FHV plate number in the App, you can view your NYC TLC License status and expiration date, will begin receiving alerts related to TLC License renewals, and view parking, camera, and moving violations in the App.
Do I need to activate monitoring?
Yes. NYC TLC-licensed drivers can automatically view basic TLC License status information in the Drivers Benefits App. However, to receive TLC License renewal alerts and to view moving, parking, and camera violations identified by License Watch, you must activate monitoring by opting in and entering your TLC-authorized FHV plate number in the App.
Will License Watch replace official notices?
No. License Watch is designed to help you stay informed, but you should continue to review and respond to communications from the TLC, DMV, courts, tolling agencies, and other government agencies.
Is my information shared with rideshare companies or the TLC?
No. Information provided through License Watch is for your personal use only and is not shared with rideshare companies, Member Bases, or other third parties. License Watch does not share information with third parties. License Watch obtains your license renewal and violations details through publicly-available information.
What should I do if I receive an alert?
Review the alert as soon as possible and follow any instructions provided. If you need help understanding a violation or responding to a ticket, License Watch can connect you with Legal Assistance for additional guidance.
Can I get help with tickets and violations?
Yes. License Watch includes access to support from Legal Assistance to help you understand your options when faced with a violation.

Disclosures

You must meet Eligibility Requirements* to be enrolled in Drivers Benefits. An eligible driver is either:

(i) a driver who is registered with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (NYC TLC) as a driver for a Black Car service and who, for initial eligibility, has provided service to passengers for at least twenty (20) hours during the past thirty (30) days and, for ongoing eligibility, based on driving-hours data provided by the NYC TLC for the rolling six (6) month prior periods, has provided service to passengers for an average of at least twenty (20) hours per month, with such hours measured from the time a passenger enters a vehicle until such passenger exits the same vehicle, or

(ii) a driver is not registered with the NYC TLC and who qualifies as a Transportation Network Company (TNC) or is affiliated with a dispatch base that is a member of The Black Car Fund and in the prior calendar year has received a gross income of at least $4,000 during the most recent available calendar quarter from the provision of service to passengers in the State of New York. Gross revenue is determined based on income that will be reported on a driver's Form 1099. These eligibility standards may be changed by The Black Car Fund upon at least 30 days' notice. Enrolled drivers must continue to meet eligibility requirements to maintain access to the benefits. A Driver shall cease to be an Eligible Driver if said Driver has been found by the Workers’ Compensation Board to be disqualified as a claimant for lost time benefits pursuant to Section 114-a of the New York Workers' Compensation Law.

*These Eligibility Requirements were last updated and are effective as of April 9, 2026.

The Black Car Fund (“The BCF”) is a not-for-profit organization created by New York State to provide workers' compensation insurance to drivers of NY Black Car Services including Uber, Lyft, and the more traditional Black Car bases in the industry. The BCF also provides safety and health programs that benefit these for-hire drivers, including the Drivers Benefits Program that features the Accident Disability Insurance Plan, $100K Accidental Death Benefit, Personal Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, Hearing Care Program, Dental Insurance, Vision Coverage, Telemedicine, discounts on Urgent Care and Prescriptions, and more, at no cost to eligible drivers. All the benefits paid for by The BCF are funded entirely by the small surcharge that is paid by passengers on each ride. While we encourage all eligible drivers to participate, participation is entirely voluntary, and you are not required to participate. None of the benefits are intended to provide you with any rights of employment or to otherwise affect your status as an independent contractor with respect to The BCF or with the dispatch base you are affiliated with. If you are an employee driver, none of the benefits paid for by The BCF are sponsored or endorsed by your employer. None of the benefits are intended to be covered by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”). The Black Car Fund reserves the right to revise or terminate these benefits in whole or in part at any time, and for any reason.
